York Minster is one of the world’s most magnificent cathedrals, a masterpiece in stained-glass and stone, with foundations rooted in the nation’s earliest history.

Experience its vast spaces brought to life with the glory of worship and heavenly music or find quiet corners revealing great treasures, unexpected stories and human inspiration. York Minster is one of the largest medieval Gothic cathedrals in Northern Europe and is custodian to important and irreplaceable art from this period.

The current building is around 800 years old and is at least the second Minster to stand in this location, but the history of the site dates back almost 2,000 years. Learn more about its art, history, and music and how these have changed with York over the centuries. All year round, there is a magnificent programme of events and services, including performances by the Minster Choir, one of the UK’s leading choirs.
