Stand in the very spot where, according to legend, Robin Hood and Maid Marian were married…
St Mary’s Church in Edwinstowe is a beautiful and ancient place of worship in the heart of Sherwood Forest. It is visited by many tourists who come to see the church where, according to legend, Robin Hood and Maid Marian were married!
The building dates from around 1175, and is still used as a place of prayer and worship.
After touring the church, visitors can look around the village of Edwinstowe. Known as ‘Robin Hood’s village’, there are many references to the man himself, from street signs to the statue of Robin and Marian in the High Street. Just a 10-minute walk from the village centre is the RSPB Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre, with the Major Oak at its heart – said once to have been his hiding place!
