The Georgian Theatre Royal is not only one of the key jewels in Richmond’s illustrious crown but it also occupies a unique place in theatre history. This grade 1 listed building, dating from 1788, is the UK’s oldest working theatre in its original form and opening the doors of its pocket-sized auditorium is like stepping into another age.

The theatre is a modern performance venue and offers a unique and intimate theatrical experience. Performances are extremely varied with something to suit all tastes and interests – from ground-breaking drama and stand-up comedy to ballet, opera and children’s shows. the Theatre attracts some of the biggest names in show business, including Dame Judi Dench, John Cleese, Alan Bennett, Jenny Agutter, Sir Tim Rice, Toya Wilcox and Martin Kemp to name but a few. It is also a regular stop for leading touring companies such as The Globe.
